Weekly Round-Up: Christmas Spiegeltent, well earned links, bubble pods and indoor clouds.

The Christmas Spiegeltent opens this evening.

We've enjoyed some bright frosty mornings this week; Winter is truly making it's presence felt as December arrives.  It's the start of a run of festive events this weekend with the official launch of the Christmas Spiegeltent at Bristol's harbourside this evening as they host a live music launch party in aid of Temwa charity.

This week we have enjoyed various business networking meetings and events including one from Apple specialist Western Computer devoted to the iPad. We've welcomed a new addition to the programming team this week, as we continued work on a pair of exciting new App design projects. We also started building the new web site for Metro Printing, and completed the new site (soon to go live) for Littlescapes Garden Design.

Businesses using social media:
One Must Not Build Links. You Must Earn it.

Smaller businesses are beginning to make use of social networking as a useful method for relationship building, which can be much more important than just link building.

For companies using search engine optimisation (SEO), link building has evolved, with the focus now on higher value links, which have to be earned, rather than the number of links. See how to gain well earned links in this article.

We're always interested in the latest developments on Facebook, particularly for users of business pages and online marketing. Here's an interesting perspective on how Facebook is like a credit card; being that it is so popular- almost a necessity, yet some people will always have reservations or never sign up.

Linkedin can sometimes be taken for granted by people simply using it to build up their connections, but here's how to take advantage of the Linkedin groups function by knowing how to set up and effectively manage your own group.

We keep seeing that sharing visual content is far more engaging, shareable and interesting, especially videos. Here's some useful insight into using Youtube and Facebook together to increase your number of video views, and how to turn web content 'likes' into more Facebook 'likes'.

The video sharing site Vimeo has just launched a new app for the iPhone, which also has functions to share video clips through social media. They are developing the app for the iPad and Android as well. Here's a promotional video for it

Art & design:
Are you ever told you're living in your own little bubble? Well now you can apparently, in this transparent bubble cocoon design by Micasa Lab. Various modules of furniture and functions can be put together inside the pod to make a special space to get away from it all.

Another slightly 'unreal' design is how an artist using a fog machine has created some incredible indoor clouds for this photo series.

We also like these huge street art pieces from a Spanish artist in Barcelona; which reminded us of his contribution to the first See No Evil street art festival in Bristol.

To finish the week, here's a comedic cartoon which we liked - representing signs you're on the computer too much!
